Where exactly can I find the engine code? A4 (B5 Platform) Discussion Discussion forum for the B5 Audi A4 produced from 1995-2001 B5 FAQ.
In this case I selected 8D, for the 1995 through 2001 B5 chassis Audi A4--only one of a multitude of Volkswagens and Audis that the VCDS can scan. The Auto-Scan function checks through all of the car's electronic controllers, one by one, and returns any fault codes that it sees. It takes several minutes to do the complete Auto-Scan.
1.8 Liter 4-Cyl. 5V Turbo (engine codes: AEB, ATW, AWM) 1.8 Liter 4-Cyl. 5V Turbo (engine code: AMU, ATC) 1.8 Liter 4-Cyl. 5V Turbo (engine code: AMB) 2.0 Liter 4-Cyl. 4V Turbo (engine code: BPG) 2.0 Liter 4-Cyl. 5V (engine code: ABA) 2.7 Liter V6 5V BiTurbo (engine code: APB) 2.8 Liter V6 5V (engine codes: AHA, ATQ)
Look at the fifth digit in the coding (Market version): 1 - "Rest of world, quattro". 2 - "USA, quattro". 3 - "Rest of world, FronTrak". 4 - "USA, FronTrak". So, for a USA model A4 quattro, if the original coding is 00002, and you want to change to the "Old-style Tiptronic" strategy, change the coding to 00022.
